Bring me some of that

Global Comment has the scoop on two new archeological finds showing that Mayan markets and sea trade in Kerala both extend back to a very long way.

Mark Bittman put up a musing by an RTP dweller (Andrew Kligerman) about how tea and beer may have ended up associated with different parts of the world. An integral fact, Europeans didn't know that boiling water made it safer to drink, but barley was used as a basic food staple in the Middle East and people learned how to ferment it.
