Bans on smoking in bars may be increasing drunk driving; I am continually amazed at the information studying unintended consequences provides about humans. In that same vein, it turns out that micro-loans are so effective that the idea is now being used in for profit business models and there is a great deal of dispute over whether this is a good thing and it appears that willpower is a finite commodity that depletes (and requires) high blood sugar levels, though we seem to get better at it with practice. As if that wasn't enough, it turns out that there is a Colbert Bump, but only for Democrats (paper).
Since I am already giving a run down of the weekend NYT, I might as well also tell you about the coolest thing going on in Atlanta that I am not going to be able to attend. Big Boi is starring in a ballet! I am not always a fan of the city in which I now reside, but there are some awesome culture clashes that happen here precisely because it is such a strange mixture of things. There's an article about green urban planning, as well, and off-shore wind power is looking more like a possibility because of the use of floating windmills.
