This article charts a recent study that found men seemed to be confused about women's signals. This wouldn't be so surprising if the only result was that men tend to interpret women's friendly gestures as sexual overtures, but they were, apparently, also likely to make the opposite mistake and see sexual overtures as friendly. Unfortunately, the full study is being published in April and the summaries I have found don't even try to explain what the friendly and/or sexual cues were-inquiring minds want to know.
