There are at least two things in the NYT today that are worth looking over, one happy and one infuriating to a degree that I find difficult to express. The awesome news has to do with restrictions on international flights between the US and Europe changing so that there should be far more direct flights and maybe even some Ryan Air cheap flights, though the expense shouldn't change drastically considering the dollar and the price of fuel.

The not so awesome news is another tale of woe and profiteering. We gave a $300 million weapons contract to a 22-year-old who provided outdated weapons to Afghanistan. Yes, our country really did that. I am without words.

Update: TPMMuckraker has more comments and details on the situation and the oversight committee.

Update II: My current complete blog crush on the people at Obsidian Wings continues: hilzoy has been using the new database of government contractors to do research on the matter.
