A little lit crit to make sure you go back to sleep

If you're feeling like some literary criticism on your Monday morning, I found this article fascinating. It is about the women's captivity narrative and how it operates in American popular literature, but she links the form to more traditional forms like the captivity narratives concerning American Indians that were wildly popular during the early days of this country and the continuing popularity of the personal narrative, especially when it involves overcoming adversity. Here thesis is essential that Americans eat that BS up and it has affected what is published about Muslim women and Iran (the country she is most concerned with). I think her point is valid and the figures she gives about how small a proportion of our book market is translated are completely depressing.
