Not only is the theory of the "Influencer" being challenged (see the post about Gladwell I did a few days ago), it now looks like the entire six-degrees-of-separation idea may not bear up under experimental scrutiny. Shocking! The article has the best title ever: "If Osama's only 6 degrees away, why can't we find him?"
