New Scientist says that internet service between Europe and the Middle East is coming back online after the outages. Apparently, the whole incident was caused by the anchors of several ships off Egypt's coast that waited in an off limits zone because storms had caused a traffic back up in the Suez Canal. Also, they link to an amazing map of the submarine cables that link the world.

Man, did I feel for The Arabist; I knew I liked him, but having Last.fm and Bittorrent be the first two things he listed when blogging about living without the internet, my sympathies were fully engaged.

Also, he is announcing today that Egypt has won the Africa Nations Cup and I am trying to talk my Dad into the idea that we really shouldn't miss the World Cup in South Africa. Actually, I am now officially trying to talk everyone I know into that mindset. Those of you who have already heard this plea, get ready to hear it many more times in the next year or two. I'm talking to you Jason and Robear.

Speaking of New Scientist, they say all you have to do to stay skinny is vibrate. Woo-hoo.
