Mark Bittman now has an actual blog on the NY Times site, which is marvelous because he has been doing recipes of the day. Just a few days ago he put up a recipe for coconut macaroons that I have to try. It is rare that any food item gets such marvelous rewards for so little work like macaroons, I had my niece helping me make them when she was not even two years old.
Though, as far as Bittman goes, I am still eagerly looking forward to the day when I, once again, get to cook for someone besides my parents so I can actually use my marvelous The Best Recipes in the World. Though they are getting better about trying different types of food, they still go "this tastes weird" if I serve them anything that isn't basically American (not that I have been cooking much at all for them lately, but still). I get mad cravings occasionally for this Moroccan orange salad that had cinnamon in it from that book, but they were not keen on it.
Actually, I get mad cravings for Moroccan food all the time, but I hate the tendency of Moroccan restaurants to lean towards the multi-course massive meals with no a la carte choices. It is always outrageously expensive and I just can't eat that much. I normally can't finish one course, much less six. If they would just let me come in and get my bastilla or chicken with honey and apricots or lemon and olives with a great big vat of harissa without spending a fortune and trying to eat a feast I would be so happy.
As I think of it, that is also the reason I don't really like cooking for myself, I love good food, but it often doesn't feel like it is worth the effort just for me. Also, if you like food blogs, I have to make the never-ending push for Ruhlman and Chow's Nagging Questions list.
