It is certainly true that when I look around at my friends very few of them seem interested in dealing with the lack of entertainment and the hassle of traffic that living in the suburbs brings. I can understand how if one has a dog or a child (no, I'm not equating them) a yard can be quite valuable, but even then it doesn't have to be a large yard with a massive empty house. It turns out that this is true among my entire generation, not just my friends; I don't know how I'll get over the disappointment of finding out that I am just like everybody else, but I highly recommend this article talking about this trend and the way in which it may, eventually, decimate our suburbs.
If you believe the NYT, this and the current property bust means that the new baby boom should be ending soon. I have my doubts that correlation equals causation in this particular case, but either way I'm not entirely sure I approve of the idea that the stimulus package may encourage people to be buying outside of their range once again, even if it is backed by Fannie Mae, but this article claims it could help the crisis quite a bit.
