It turns out inner beauty can be measured.
The general method for scientific studies that have to do with physical attractiveness involves showing people pictures and having them rated and then measured. As often happens, once someone came up with a creative experiment that paradigm has to be changed. Even when asked only about physical attractiveness people's opinions are dramatically effected by their opinions of the person about whom they are being asked. Scientists just never figured out a way to measure it before.
