So I've decided, apropos of nothing, that this was going to be my year of World Cup appreciation. As I type this, Germany has just vanquished plucky Costa Rica 4-2 in the highest scoring first game in world cup history and I am gearing up to root for the embattled Americans on Monday.
I have even picked a favorite player. England's Peter Crouch who, in addition to a name straight out of J.K. Rowling's imagination, will also bring his hilariously proportioned frame (6'7", 167lbs!!) to the pitch on Saturday when England takes on Paraguay.
Anyway, to get you up to speed, here is one guy's take on the competition and the schedule for all games being broadcast in the US. And to get you in the mood, here's a montage of some of the more amazing uses the human body can be put to in pursuit of soccer related endeavors.
