O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts

Ok, so here's the list of approved methods of execution for each state in the country. Good to know, I guess, but not terribly interesting. Except for the fact that Delaware is still keeping it's options open with regard to hanging. That shit is fascinating.

Notice, though, that the only approved method of execution available to Texans is (the comparatively lame) lethal injection. Keep in mind that since 1976, Texas has executed 363 prisoners - all of them, presumably, via lethal injection. Sheesh. You would think they might get bored. Anyway, I come to praise Texans, not to bury them. For surely, their enterprise is honorable - it is only in execution (so to speak) that they lack. I'm only trying to help. So, my modest proposal is to drop all of this concern with, "unusual" punishment. We should probably stay away from cruel, but if Texas is going to kill the guy anyway, does it really matter if we make a reality show out of the thing...or build a giant catapult.

Last year, there were 19 executions in Texas for a population (as of 2000) of 22,490,000 which gives Texas an execution rate of 0.8448 per million citizens. That execution rate places Texas comfortably at number 13 world wide - right between Iran and Yemen. It really is a shame that poor Texas is forced to suffer beneath the weight of so many criminals.

And Idaho can use the firing squad when so inclined. I also find it somewhat interesting the southeast still reserves the privlidge of frying someone - even in this age of energy conservation.

Remember that Brian - just in case you are stopped because you look suspicious or resemble someone the cops are looking for.
