What I thought was the opposite of Truth

I just realized something. The empty roads I enjoyed this morning were not, in fact, indicative of my amazing vehicular good fortune. Rather, they prove only the dreary hypothesis that I am among the minority of Americans (or at least Philadelphians) whose employer demands productivity on this, the saddest day of the Christian calendar. Sigh.

You're probably here for the music. So here's some Good Friday music for ya'll. The band's called The Mountain Goats and they're distinguished by the fact(s) that:
(a) Their plurality is dubious. Largely, the band consists of one John Darnielle.
(b) Six of their nine LPs (and all their many EPs) have been recorded via a Panasonic boombox whose age, when it was finally retired in 2003, was definitely beginning to show.

Darnielle's lyrics tend to focus on the chemically or emotionally desperate and though he's often a bit maudlin, it's the optimism that gets me. No matter how terrifying the situation may be, his cast of losers and fuck-ups always seem to have a shot at redemption. Seems like a good thing to think about today.

Tunes:
Palmcorder Yanja
Adair

And because we love videos - here's the clip for my favorite tune from the most recent Mountain Goats record. It's called, "This Year", and the encoding seems a bit screwed up. Words do not sync with mouths. You may want to watch it with your eyes closed.

If you look around a bit, you'll find more tunes and vids.
